Starbuck’s goes (RED) for the holidays

Helena Christensen, Mary Louise Parker, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Mario Batali and Annabella Sciorra handed out coffees in New York’s Times Square as they kicked off Starbucks’ new partnership with Bono’s charity (RED).

Five cents from every purchase of a (Starbucks) RED coffee – Peppermint Mocha Twist, Gingersnap Latte and Espresso Chocolate Truffle – in its American and Canadian branches between November 27 2008 and January 3 2009 will go directly to the Global Fund to invest in Aids programmes in Africa.
The TV chef announced the new initiative, saying: "Starbucks are putting together their efforts to help raise funding to prolong or extend life for mostly children and women in Africa. For only 41 cents a day, the (RED) campaign will produce and distribute a drug that keeps people alive and allows them to thrive.
"It doesn’t cost the customer anything, the money comes directly from the partner company. It makes a big difference but it’s a very easy thing to do."
Mario added: "When you’re spending money on what some people perceive is a natural necessity every day, five cents of that will go towards something bigger with more resonance than just jacking you up before lunch."

Supermodel Helena, who has worked with (RED) in the past, revealed she had no hesitations about joining the star-studded line-up.
"It’s truly a smart concept and I enjoy being part of something that works so well," she said.
