Jeffrey Dean Morgan born to be a Loser and Christopher Lee gets knighted

Here’s a couple of news stories related to Jeffrey Dean Morgan.  We’ll file these under “six degrees!”

Comic Vine interviewed Andy Diggle, writer of The Losers comics, about Sylvain White’s casting who says Jeffrey Dean Morgan was born to play Clay.

What can you tell us about the film adaptation of your comic book ‘ The Losers’ which will be hitting theaters in April 2010?

jeffrey_dean_morgan_the_losers_aug09I could tell you LOADS… but then I’d have to kill you. We recently visited the set in Puerto Rico and met the cast and director Sylvain White, and trust me, it’s gonna kick seventeen different kinds of ass. It’s very faithful to the crazy action comic Jock and I put together. We were frankly freaking out seeing these characters we’d made up years ago suddenly taking on a life of their own, walking and talking and blowing stuff up!

  • Did you have any involvement or say in the production of the film or the screenwriting?

Yeah, when director Sylvain White came on board he sounded me out about the screenplay, and it looks like he’s taken most of my suggestions on board. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how faithful they’ve been to our original comic. It became very clear as soon as we met Sylvain that he wanted to steer very close to the book. I wish I could show you what we’ve seen, but we’re sworn to secrecy!

  • Are you excited about the project?

Are you kidding? This is like six months of the night before Christmas for me! They have an awesome cast and a director who’s hungry to show the world what he can do. Jeffrey Dean Morgan was born to play Clay, and Idris Elba is genius casting for Roque. Chris Evans was the best thing in the FANTASTIC FOUR movies, and he’s hilariously cool as Jensen in THE LOSERS. And we all know Zoe Saldana is drop-dead gorgeous, but you’ve never seen her kick ass they way she does as Aisha.

And Christopher Lee is now Sir Christopher Lee

Sir Christopher Lee accepts knighthood

Finding oneself opposite a tall, baleful celluloid vampire would have most people reaching for a head of the most pungent Spanish garlic, a large crucifix or a sharp stake.

The Prince of Wales, however, opted for a ceremonial sword, even as the 1.95-metre (6ft 5ins) vision of Count Dracula leaned worryingly close to the royal neck.

Fortunately, the prince had little to fear. Christopher Lee – aka Counts Dracula and Dooku, not to mention Lord Summerisle and the Duc de Richeleau – had been invited to Buckingham Palace today to receive a knighthood for his services to drama and to charity.

The 87-year-old is one of cinema’s most prolific actors, appearing in more than 250 films over the course of a career that has so far spanned 61 years.

After making his name by poking blood-red contact lenses into his eyes and false fangs into his gums for a series of Hammer Horror films, Lee went on to play the urbane laird of the pagan manor in The Wicker Man and the bounteously nippled, bling-packing assassin Francisco Scaramanga in the James Bond film The Man With the Golden Gun.

More recently, the actor has lent his imposing frame and limpid tones to the roles of the evil Middle Earth wizard Saruman in the Lord of the Rings, and the evil space wizard Count Dooku in the final two Star Wars films.

Lee, whose mother was an Italian countess, will next be seen in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, in which he plays neither a vampire nor a wizard but the Jabberwock.

Update – Will we finally see Jeffrey Dean Morgan in All Good Things and Shanghai?

I’ve only seen this news on one website, but it looks like a couple of Jeffrey Dean Morgan movies being distributed by The Weinstein Company have release dates for 2010.

Apparently All Good Things is scheduled for a March 2010 release and Shanghai for April 2010. Hopefully it won’t be the same week as The Losers.

I’m assuming this isn’t set in stone and I guess we won’t know until these movies are actually released, but it is looking good…

Jeffrey Dean Morgan on Lobo – 'I Don't Know That I'm A Big Blue Guy'

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the Big Blue Guy?

It was less than two weeks between Guy Ritchie being tagged to direct a “Lobo” movie last month and actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan throwing his hat into the ring as one of the hopefuls for the lead role, so it was only natural that we bring up DC’s “Main Man” when we had a chance to sit down with Morgan recently.

Asked whether he’d reached out to Ritchie yet, Morgan downplayed his previous conversation about the project.

“I said that in passing,” Morgan told MTV News of his prior comments regarding the “Lobo” lead. “I don’t t know that I’m a big blue guy.”

No stranger to comic book movies, Morgan recently wrapped shooting on “The Losers,” an adaptation of Jock and Andy Diggle’s action-packed comic book series. However, comic fans probably Morgan best as the face of The Comedian in Zack Snyder’s adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ legendary series “Watchmen.”

Jeffrey Dean Morgan - Lobo?“Lobo happens to be a character that flies by the seat of his pants,” said Morgan of the character’s appeal. “I don’t know if I’m the guy or not, but I think it’s going to be one hell of a movie. I’ll certainly be going to see it.”

Lest you think that means he isn’t interested in the role, Morgan clarified his stance.

“Hey, if Guy Ritchie came to me and said, ‘You want to do Lobo?’ I’d say, ‘Yeah,’” said Morgan.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan update from Puerto Rico – JDM adopts a stray dog?

Looks like Bisou has a new brother or sister! According to El Nuevo Dia, Jeffrey Dean Morgan has adopted a dog while filming in Puerto Rico.  True or not, it’s a sweet story :)

“Jeffrey Dean Morgan, from Watchmen (2009), not only is handsome, but has earned a reputation for being kind hearted as well. During filming of The Losers, a dog was badly injured by a truck and it was suggested that the dog be put to sleep. But the actor offered to pay vet bills and even adopted the dog. Now the famous “Denny Duquette” now has his own “puerto rican sato”. “

Sato is slang for street dog and there’s even a rescue group for them:

Warning! Prepare to have your heart broken!!

Warner Bros. has asked that no video or pictures from The Losers set be posted and I’ll abide by the spirit of that too with no updates re. descriptions of scenes being filmed or linking to the pictures and video.  Since this is the ONE Jeffrey Dean Morgan movie that has a definite release date, it would be great to remain unspoiled.
