For all Jeffrey Dean Morgan fans, whether they’re Denny fans or not:-)
We want to take the time today to remember the 4th anniversary of the passing of Dennison “Denny” Duquette, 1970 to 2006.
Denny dies 4 years ago today at Seattle Grace Hospital, due to complications from a heart transplant.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his former fiancee, Dr. Isabel “Izzie” Stevens, his parents and most of all by the thousands of fans who still miss him and mourn his passing.
Denny was a Marine Biologist and lived a full life, but sadly, romantic love eluded him until it was too late. But just weeks before his death he found happiness with Izzie and the two were engaged.
Denny left Izzie his $8.7 million inheritance, who used the money to found The Denny Duquette Memorial Centre, a free clinic at Seattle Grace.
According to the Journal of Medical Ethics (the first time I’ve referenced them here, if you’re counting!),the Denny Duquette/Izzie Stevens storyline on Grey’s Anatomy was the worst ethical breach on television medical shows studied for their portrayal of ethical issues.
Johns Hopkins University medical student Matthew Czarny watched Season 2 of Grey’s Anatomy and House and coded each event of medical ethics.
And guess which storyline contained the worst ethical breach?
The worst ethical breach? Czarny doesn’t hesitate. The multi-episode plot on Grey’s about intern Izzie Stevens falling in love with heart patient Denny Duquette. To move him up on the transplant list, she cuts the wire to the device supporting his heart, worsening his condition. (No happy ending: He gets a new heart, but dies. Stevens confesses and quits.
Oh Matthew, if only it ended there! Have you Season 5 yet?
ETA: Please don’t take this post in any way except the fun it was meant to be. I thought it was funny that this med student picked this storyline as the worst ethical breach on GA and House. Seriously, have you seen what House gets up to sometimes??
Television Without Pity has announced the winners of their 2009 Tubey Awards and once again we see what fans really thought about Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprising his role as Denny Duquette in a storyline that seems to turn off a lot of fans.
I didnt think it was that bad and was just happy to see JDM back on TV, but for regular GA viewers, it was not a happy time.
And they sweep this next award, wiping out all competition. Come on, it wasn`t all that bad.
As you probably already know the Season 5 DVDs of Grey’s Anatomy finally includes an interview with Jeffrey Dean Morgan. In a segment called It’s About Bloody Time Heaven Sent, JDM discusses the character of Denny Duquette.
Here’s a sneak preview of Jeffrey Dean Morgan discussing his audition for Shonda Rimes. And Shonda Rimes proving just what a smart woman she is!
