Hey, great news for Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Taking Woodstock. It was announced yesterday that it’ll be one of the films in official competition at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
Hopefully Jeff will be able to go to the premiere, but he’ll be filming The Resident in May.
This week’s Entertainment Weekly included Taking Woodstock in its Summer Preview Issue. Here’s a scan of the article. No mention of JDM. Or is there??

And here’s a picture of Jeffrey at the Oscars Gift Lounge picking up dog treats! Looks like he’s got a lot of other swag there.

Here’s more Jeffrey Dean Morgan interviews. Enjoy! I’m on my way to see Watchmen – again.
The last text interview has spoilers.
JDM talks about possibly coming back to Supernatural! Hey Eric, be sure to answer that phone!
And another small media piece. I threw it in because no one’s really asked him about Grey’s!
And JDM working at McDonald’s? Then every meal would be a Happy Meal!

And another interview:
Exclusive Interview: BEING ‘WATCHMEN’S’ COMEDIAN WAS NO LAUGHING MATTER FOR JEFFREY DEAN MORGAN
The SUPERNATURAL and GREY’S ANATOMY star takes a walk on the dark side with his new role in the anticipated comic book adaptation
By CARL CORTEZ with EMMANUEL ITIER, Contributors
One of the more shocking surprises of the long-anticipated WATCHMEN movie (which hits theaters today) will be the response from non-fans regarding the darker aspects of the film, including superheroes who cuss, have sex, bash in the skulls of innocent bystanders and, in the case of The Comedian, actually rape fellow superheroines.
It’s a dark look into an alternate 1985 reality from the classic graphic novel, but Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays The Comedian, relished the change of pace from his nice guy TV roles as ghost Denny on GREY’S ANATOMY and Sam and Dean’s dad on SUPERNATURAL.
“A lot of the reasons I wanted to do it so bad, was to get out of the nice guy Denny mold,” Morgan. “In reading this, it doesn’t get any worse than this guy. I couldn’t dream of another 180 degrees of anything I’ve played in my career. I relished every minute of it — except for the moments that were so brutal, even I had to step back and go ‘wow, that was a lot.’ There were a couple of those moments, but as an actor, I couldn’t make excuses for it.”
The attempted rape scene in particular turned out to be pretty harsh according to Morgan – and he was in the scene!
“We filmed that sequence for three days,” says Morgan. “On Day 2, I made a mistake of being a dummy and walking back behind the monitors where Zack was and asking for playback to see a little bit of what was happening. It took my breath away and made me want to throw up since it was so violent. I had to get away from playing these nice guys, and boy did I. There’sno regrets. There’s very specific reasons why I want to do these kind of things. As an actor, you want to challenge yourself. It was a departure for me.”
That said, Morgan also feels his fan base may be in for a shock when they see WATCHMEN.
“I don’t think they’re going to take too kindly to this film,” says Morgan. “This is going to come as a huge shock to them.”
But then again, Morgan is also opening his world to a whole other fan base than he’s normally been accustomed to – those of the WATCHMEN comics and comic book fans in general.
“I feel this book has such rabid fans, I don’t know how else to put it,” explains Morgan. “The fan boys for WATCHMEN are crazy and Zack is the first one to say, ‘this is for them.’ We stay so true to this. I didn’t need to be looking at a script for this movie. Whenever we were referencing anything on set, I would turn to a scene I was doing, I would look in the comic and I would replicate that exactly. This graphic novel was the Holy Grail of our set. It was unlike any experience I’ve ever had and I don’t think I’ll ever have another one like it. And it’s brought back all these crazy people that feel the same way about the material as I do. I’m such a huge fan of it now. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve read it and every time I do, I find something else that surprises — some nuance I never noticed before. To be apart of it, is just very surreal. The last four years have been surreal. This movie has taken it over the top for me.”
For Morgan though, his introduction to the world of graphic novels took time since his exposure to comics early on was titles such as SPIDER-MAN and ARCHIE.
“I remember reading my father and uncle’s comic book collections as a little boy, but they were all sort of one-note books,” says Morgan. “There wasn’t a dark side until WATCHMEN popped into my life. Then I read THE SPIRIT and THE DARK KNIGHT. I’m fascinated by them — they’re quite fun to read. Even reading WATCHMEN, the first day I read it three or four times. It’s a different kind of style of reading. But now I’m fascinated with them. My feeling is this is the best one and I hope the movie reflects the talent that went into that book.”
Now that WATCHMEN has built up a huge buzz, particularly around his character, Morgan feels this has been a blessing to his career and has put him front and center for the first time.
“I have a resume that is crazy,” he explains. “I’ve done every show in the history of television and I never once said ‘no’ to anything. And now for the first time, I can look at project to see whose attached, whose directing and I can choose. I never in my life thought I would get a chance to do that. I’d given up years ago. I thought I was a journeyman actor — a blue collar actor, but I think perseverance is what pays off and it’s a lot of luck unfortunately. And for me it was GREY’S ANATOMY. It put me on the radar I hadn’t been on before. God bless that show. If it weren’t for that, I wouldn’t have got P.S. I LOVE YOU, and half the reason Zack saw me was GREY’S ANATOMY. It put me on the radar of those studios and I’ve been on this great roller coaster ride since.”
